DEKALB ó Rod Carey, who has spent the last two seasons on the coaching staff of the most successful teams ever at Northern Illinois University, was introduced to the Huskies Sunday afternoon as the 22nd head football coach in school history.
The move comes in the wake of coach Dave Doeren announcing he was accepting a head coach job offer at the North Carolina State and would not be coaching the team in the Orange Bowl game.
NIU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher announced the promotion of the 41-year-old Carey, who served as NIUís offensive coordinator during the 2012 season.
