ROCHELLE—According to the 1960s Christmas song, right now is “the most wonderful time of the year,” and that is especially true in Rochelle, with all of the charitable efforts taking place in the community. Many local businesses are hosting drives to collect canned food items, clothing and money for the needy throughout this holiday season. Local video store, Family Video, is following suit by collecting non-perishable food items, as well as new and used videos for troops in the states and overseas.

For the past few years, the national movie chain has collected movies for troops. Since Nov. 1, the Rochelle store has collected more than 435 movies.

“Our goal is to reach 1,000 movies by the [Dec.] 10th,” said Family Video assistant manager, Chrissy Williams.

Williams said that the original end date was Nov. 26, but the chain extended the collection date for Dec. 10, in order to receive as many videos as possible before the holiday season of giving.
