Head-on collision

Rochelle ambulance personnel transported Randi Halbmaier, 20, of Mendota, to Rochelle Community Hospital following a head-on collision with a semi-truck Monday morning. Halbmaier was traveling eastbound on IL Route 38 just east of Creston when she crossed into the lane of the semi driven by Hector Garcia, 26, of Rochelle. Halbmaier’s vehicle struck the front of the semi with its front passenger side, causing the vehicle into the northside ditch. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. A third vehicle was damaged from the semi’s ruptured gas tank. Halbmaier was ticketd for improper lane usage. (Photos by Katie Peterson)
