ROCHELLE — Before students at Kings School put their Halloween costumes on Wednesday, Miss Illinois talked to the kids for Red Ribbon Week.

Megan Ervin was crowned Miss Illinois in June and will go on to compete in Miss America in Jan. 12, but before then she will spend her rain as Miss. Illinois and talk to students about her platform “heptathlon and healthy habits.”

Heptathlon and healthy habits focuses on nutrition, physical education, reading and education, recycling, spirit, community service and safe driving.

Erwin was welcomed at Kings School with signs and her own “personal bodyguards” for the day.

She said she has one guy that travels with her, but never before has she been greeted with three elementary boys, in black coats and sunglasses, to protect her for the day.
