John Roe was a member of the Army Air Corps during World War II and as Veterans Day approaches he is grateful that the men who serve our country are respected.
Roe graduated from Rochelle Township High in 1941 and went to Knox College as part of the ROTC program.
While Roe was attending his second year at Knox in 1943, the United States was drafting men for WWII and he decided to avoid getting drafted and enlisted.
“I decided to enlist because we were told we would finish the school year and choose a program,” he said.
