Many times as fire chief I would remind myself it is only lonely at the top if you forget those that are keeping you there. Over the years I had the honor of working with many people who gave a tremendous portion of their lives to the protection of the people of Rochelle.
I want to mention and thank Sam and Assistant Chief Russel Hamaker (53 years), Gene and Clyde Warning (55 years), Chief Tom and Daniel McDermott (64 years), Russel and Assistant Chief James Peters (66 years), The Kasmar clan — Dave Sr. (8), Dave Jr. (30), Rick (30), Brian, Ryan, and Scott — for another six years of fire fighting.
These five families have given more than 312 years of service to the community’s safety. But there is one family that leaves the rest standing in the smoke.
