Staff Sergeant Wes Sosa, a squad leader for the Army National Guard, taught kids how to navigate the woods on Friday morning at Skare Park.
The Elementary Schools were off for parent teacher conferences and Elizabeth Sosa, Superintendent of Recreation, thought the day would be a great day for an outdoor activity.
The kids, who braved the cold October weather, learned "skills on using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse terrain."
Sosa said she has had many adults say they wanted to attend but had to work on Friday, so she is considering hosting the event again on a weekend in the spring.
