Circus makes a stop in Hillcrest Tuesday

Posted: Friday, Oct 5th, 2012

Owen Miller, 3, of Rochelle, was ready for his morning camel ride. He was so excited for the circus that he woke up at 5:30 a.m., according to his grandmother, Jeanett Bryant.

HILLCREST—What is normally a cornfields in front of Calvary Lighthouse Church turned into a circus Tuesday morning as the Kelly Miller Circus pitched colorful tents and displayed exotic animals near the church parking lot and building.

A menagerie of camels, zebras, tigers, elephants, ponies, llamas and small dogs were already out and about Tuesday morning, hours before the evening circus performances. Although performances didn’t start until 4:30 p.m. and then again at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Kelly Miller Circus displayed some of their animal performers, as well as offered pony rides and camel rides to visiting children.
