Emilia Leyva Vargas

ROCHELLE — Emilia Leyva Vargas, 89, of Rochelle, passed away, Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at her home.

She was born on April 5, 1923 in Durango, Mexico, one of 18 children born to Fransisco Leyva and Elifonsa (Marquez) Leyva. Emilia was married to Benito Vargas, who preceded her in death in 1951. She then remarried to Pedro Rivera. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded by a daughter, Elidia Vargas Garcia.

Survivors include sons, Roberto (Berlinda) Vargas and Pedro (Sue) Vargas of Rochelle; daughter, Amada (Felipe) Valenzuela of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Noe, Angie, Roberto Jr., Felipe Jr., David, Daniel, Angel, Juliana, Fernando, Benito, Aurelio, Azusena, Javier, Romelia, Connie, and Griselda; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Services will be held at St. Patrick Church on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 5th at Unger-Horner Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery.
