OREGON — The Oregon High School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association camp held at Northern Illinois University from June 26-29. The 13 cheerleaders had the opportunity to learn new cheers, dances, stunts and pyramids throughout the week. The last day of camp consists of many different awards and opportunities based on their knowledge of the material learned during their stay at NIU. This year Oregon High School left with many team and individual awards to take home.
Ten Oregon High School cheerleaders were nominated for the All American team which is selected by the NCA instructors. These cheerleaders were nominated for their outstanding superior techniques in one of the following areas: jumps, tumbling, stunting, motion techniques, leadership and dance.
Individuals that were nominated have the opportunity to try out for the All American Team held later during camp.
These individuals include Krista Greene, Brittany Huston, Ashtin Bjorklund, Caitlyn Wolber, Claire Rypkema, Jordyn Miller, Mackenzie Rudis, Emily Cahill, Kassandra Massolle and Kiley Tegtmeyer.
After a very impressive tryout, 10 campers were selected as All Americans from three different schools. Of the 10, five were from Oregon High School. These include Krista Greene, Caitlyn Wolber, Emily Cahill, Claire Rypkema and Brittany Huston.
Greene was also awarded the NCA Top All American Medal for scoring the highest during the All American tryouts. Massolle was presented an award for excellent leadership skills.
Not only were the Oregon High SChool cheerleaders successful as individuals, but also as a team. They competed on the last day using the material they learned throughout the week at the camp. They walked away proud as the Champion Chant winners of camp. Another award presented to Oregon as the Spirit Award that is voted on by all the other squads at camp and presented to the team they feel provided the most spirit and sportsmanship at camp. Oregon completed their stay at camp with a spirit stick and a bid to nationals in Dallas, Texas.
