Thirty-third edition of ‘Meet in the Heat’ is this Saturday

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Track Club is hosting the 33rd Annual Rochelle Invitational - more commonly known as “The Meet in the Heat” - this Saturday at the Douglas Creason Sports Complex. Field events begin at 9 a.m. with running events scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

“It’s a great opportunity for kids to come and check out track,” said RTC coach Kurt Wolter. “Any kid from the community that wants to try an event is welcome.”

There are six age divisions for boys and girls: Pee Wee (6-8), Bantam (9-10), Midget (11-12), Youth (13-14), Intermediate (15-16) and Young M/W (17-18). Kids ages 12 and under can participate in up to three events and kids ages 13-18 can do four. There is a $5 fee per event for registering in advance and a $6 fee for registering before the meet starts on Saturday.

Two pole vaulting clubs are expected to attend, along with a DeKalb-based track club. More could show up.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we get some kids from Sterling and Belvidere’s club coming, and maybe even Aurora. There are clubs all over, it just depends on what meets they choose to go to,” Wolter said.

The ‘Meet in the Heat’ typically attracts 100 to 150 young athletes.

A free fun run will also be held for children under six.

The Meet is sanctioned by USA Track & Field - Illinois. For more information, or to register for an event, visit www.rochelletrackclub.org. Click on the “RTC Invitational” tab to download a sign-up form
