ROCHELLE — Many exciting activities are planned for this Sunday as part of the town’s annual Fourth of July celebration.
Kicking things off will be the Rochelle VFW Fourth of July Parade, which steps off from city hall on Sixth Street and heads south to Lincoln Avenue. The parade will turn right (north) on Ninth Street to 10th Avenue; left on 10th to the end at Atwood Park.
Participants should line up from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at City Hall. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. Those wishing to participate in the parade are encouraged to call VFW Post 3878 at 815-562-3878 or fax them at 815-562-7838.
From 11:30 a.m. to noon, the community is invited to attend a Community Church Service at the Atwood Park bandshell.
Beginning at noon, food booths will be open at Atwood Park.
Many events will highlight the afternoon. From 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Ballet Nueva Imagen, a Hispanic dance group, will perform at the bandshell.
At 2 p.m., there will be a skate board contest at the skate park and a bags tournament at VFW Park.
From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., enjoy music by the Calvary Lighthouse Band at the Atwood Park bandshell.
CD music will be played from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ballet Folklorico Azteca will perform.
Communion of Saints will perform from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the bandshell.
Plus Size Models will perform from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Beneath the Fog performs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the Rochelle Municipal Band will play from 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
The fireworks display, provided by the City of Rochelle and the Rochelle Fire Department, are set to take off at dusk.
