Concert fundraiser to aid soup kitchen

ROCHELLE — Although there have been setbacks, Carolyn Brown, whose vision for a community soup kitchen has brought her quite a ways down the road of progress, is determined to see the project through, and the latest wrench in the gears is a reminder that sometimes the cost of seeing a project through is the frustration of dealing with the unexpected.

Although many hundreds of man hours and many thousands of dollars are part of any start-up or renovation, she wasn’t prepared for what hit her recently — finding out that the septic system that had been in use wasn’t that at all but a walled up cistern from years ago. Now, Brown says, that will have to go and an entirely new installation with tank and drainage field is in the works, and that cost is significant.
