TOMAH, Wis. – Harold J. Dombo, 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Tomah VA Nursing Home.
Harold embraced life as a husband and father. His loves were his family, golfing, vacations on cruise ships and dancing with his wife of almost 50 years.
After retiring from Caron International after 24 years of service, he not only enjoyed weekly golf and making a hole-in-one, but also walking the neighborhood to stay in shape. Harold also helped students by volunteering his time teaching them reading skills. He was especially proud that all five children had the opportunity to go to and graduate from college.
Harold was a WWII veteran serving in the 35th Infantry Division in the European Theatre. During part of his service he was a POW and managed to escape twice, but unfortunately was recaptured both times.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Roberta, and four siblings. Survivors include his sons and spouses, John and Julie Dombo, of Wichita, Kan., Paul and Johanna Dombo, of Costa Mesa, Calif., Robert and Kathy Dombo, of Madison, Wis.; daughters and spouses, Jackie Czeiska and Siegfried of LaCrosse, Wis., and Patricia Northrup of Webster, NY. Survivors also include sister, Emily Knox, of New York, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at Blessed Sacrement Church in LaCrosse, Wis. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 at the church.
