Winter 2014: How will it compare?

ROCHELLE — School and event cancellations due to snow and cold this season has given us time to compare northern Illinois winters. 

Rochelle Township High School social studies teacher Carol Schneider recalls as a child celebrating her Jan. 28 birthday with eight or nine unknown high school students whose parents couldn’t get to school to get them when 23 inches of snow fell in January of 1967. 

“My parents opened up their home because we were close to the school and had plenty of extra food for my birthday party,” Schneider joked.
