ROCHELLE — A possible plan to move forward with the new war memorial to be located in Lawnridge Cemetery was discussed Monday evening at the VFW. The meeting was held to determine the steps members of the VFW and the American Legion need to follow and city engineer Sam Tessreau explained what the city would be providing for the project.

“From the city’s perspective, we will provide the area, the concrete and the labor to lay the concrete,” explained Tessreau. “The city will also provide the concrete and labor for the concrete pad which the cannon will sit on.”

The cannon is located temporarily in a spot by the chapel. Meeting attendees were shown what the proposed war memorial would look like, complete with a center area with landscaping, benches and monuments with a flag for each branch of service.
