OGLE COUNTY –– The Ogle County Board’s Security Committee met Tuesday morning during its regular monthly session and discussed past credit card charging practices, but did not question any spending details and blamed area media for blowing the issues out of proportion.
For the past several weeks, board members and other elected officials have been explaining and defending past spending and credit charge practices after several stories came out in the Sauk Valley Media papers, questioning certain past credit card charges under the control of the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.
After a published article suggested Ogle Coroner Lou Finch used a county credit card to make a personal purchase, Finch addressed the committee on Tuesday to clear his name.
“I do not have a county credit card and never had one,” Finch began. “In 2011, my wife and I were at dinner and discussing what we were going to get our eldest child for Christmas and it just happened to be our IT guy in the county was sitting next to me and I asked him what I could do for under X amount of dollars for a computer. He said ‘let me check.’ The next thing I know he says it was purchased Monday morning. I thought I was going to purchase it, so immediately I wrote out a check for it.”
