ROCHELLE –– An accident at the age of four has affected Ricky Smith for the remainder of his life. Medical issues caused from being hit by a drunk driver forced him to quit working in February and he now walks with assistance of a walker.
Smith’s family is holding a benefit on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Rochelle VFW building to raise money for Smith’s medical expenses. Bones on the right side of his body are starting to fall apart and Smith is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery next month.
Smith is hoping the upcoming surgeries will allow him to walk on his own and be able to return to work at DelMonte.
“Anyone who knows Ricky knows how much he refuses to collect disability and wants to work, stated his sister Wilma Adamski. “All he wants to do is get better and walk without his walker.”
