Fire protection in the rural area has changed greatly over the years. In the late 1800s and early 1900s it was a matter of neighbor helping neighbor. There was no fire department to call. When a fire started, neighbors would respond on horseback, wagon or afoot. Your neighbors were your lifeline.
Much has changed in the area of fire protection for the rural community. But one thing has stayed the same. It is still neighbor helping neighbor.
