SYCAMORE — Joe Goshko didn’t go out for cross-country last year, but after his one-year sabbatical, the senior suited up for his first meet of the season and ran the fastest time on the team at Tuesday’s Sycamore Invite.

It was also faster than the Hubs’ best performance last season.

Even with Goshko running well and Rochelle’s other top runners close to breaking the 20-minute mark, the Hubs still finished in the bottom of the standings with 447 team points.

“Today’s outcome was not a surprise,” Rochelle head cross-country coach John Dobbs said after Tuesday’s meet. “As a group we did not have a good summer of training, and now we need to find a way to work ourselves out of the basement.”

Vernon Hills won the varsity boys race with 36 points. Other Northern Illinois Big-12 teams at the Sycamore Invite were DeKalb, Dixon and Sycamore. Sycamore finished in fourth place, Dixon ended the meet in 10th place and the Barbs were 13th overall, just one place ahead of the Hubs.
