ROCHELLE The beginning of the school year often means changes for students. This year, faculty and staff members at one local elementary school are seeing changes as well. Steve Stewart began the school year last week as the principal at May Elementary School.

Stewart was hired by the Rochelle Elementary District 231 board to replace retiring principal Barb Cantlin.

Prior to starting at May, Stewart worked at Stillman Valley as an athletic and activities director and elementary physical education teacher. Stewart said working as the athletic and activities director required a lot of time after school and on the weekends and was looking for more school day and family-friendly hours.
