ROCHELLE Lincoln School was a landmark of education for more than 100 years in Rochelle, and even though it is no longer an elementary school, it will still serve as a place for training.

Last week, the Rochelle Elementary School board accepted a bid for $40,100 for the sale of the old Lincoln Elementary School to a Rochelle police officer who intends to use the building as a police and fire training center.

Matt Gerard, who has been a police officer with the city since 2007, was the only person to submit a bid for the building. He plans to use the building for training programs for area police and fire departments. A closing date on the building will be set within the next 120 days.
