ROCHELLE—A little more than one year and $53.7 million later, decision makers within the State of Illinois and the City of Dixon are left to pick up the pieces from former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell’s drawn-out embezzlement scheme. This particular case drew national attention and with it, an unwanted spotlight on the local area.

In an effort to safeguard against future incidents, area Illinois State Representative Tom Demmer has recently endorsed three new anti-corruption bills. All three bills passed unanimously within the Illinois General Assembly and are currently being carried through the Senate, with the guidance of Senator Tim Bivins.

“As I testified on the committee and floor and introduced this legislation and identified myself as being a life-long Dixon resident, they were [general assembly] all very familiar with the case that happened there and they all want to make sure that doesn’t happen in their hometown. There was widespread support for these ideas to add some accountability and transparency to local government. The case that happened here was a real wake up call for a lot of people,” said Demmer.
