ANNA ó James C. Kazort, 79, formerly of Rochelle, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Veteranís Home in Anna.
Jim was born on June 20, 1934 in Wayne County to Orval and Dorthy (Wiggins) Kazort. He graduated from Steward High School in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rochelle V.F.W. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Moose for many years. Jim was employed by Spauldings in DeKalb until his retirement in 1997.
One of his pastimes in his younger years was raising White King pigeons. He showed his pigeons throughout the Midwest and earned many trophies and ribbons. One of his great joys was his love of horses. He had the opportunity to travel West many times and toured ranches where they raised appaloosa and the famous white stallions.
Jim was a farm boy at heart and had a collection of miniature farm tractors and equipment. He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Jim enjoyed time spent with his nieces and nephews. During his residence at the veteranís home , he met many wonderful and caring people. He brought joy and laughter to all those who knew him. Jim will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Jean (Charles) Hammil of Milton, Wis and Linda (Harry) Linden of Yorkville; brother-in-law, Larry Allison of DeKalb; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judith Allison.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Pastor Larry Allison officiating. Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle following the service.
