DEKALB — Gregory Paul Dorwaldt, 50, of DeKalb, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Kindred Hospital, Sycamore after a courageous short battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 14, 1963, in Elgin, the son of Larry P. and Janet R. (Scholer) Dorwaldt, Greg married Phyllis M. Talley-Garcia on Oct. 26, 2007, in Sycamore. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather.
A truck driver by profession, Greg enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Tony (Kristin) Dorwaldt of Rochelle and Justin (Michelle) Talley of Sycamore; grandchildren, Sofia and Tyler Talley, Tyler and Alainah Schwarz, and a grandson due this month; his mother, Janet, sister, Jenifer (Mike) Beck, and brother, Geofrey (Nadine) Dorwaldt, all of Rochelle; mother-in-law, Ann Talley of DeKalb; brothers-in-law, Bobby (Phyllis) Talley of Lindenwood, Tim (Kandi) Talley of DeKalb and Mike (Megan) Atieh of Elgin; sisters-in-law, Denise (Kenny) Cagle of Sycamore and Anna Walker of DeKalb; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Chris Daum of South Elgin; and his canine companions, Moose and Minnie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry; grandparents; two nieces; and his father-in-law, R.C. Talley.
The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 14, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb. His family and friends will speak. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Anderson Funeral Home.
