BARABOO, Wis. — Roger Eugene Atkinson, 59, was taken home to live with our heavenly father on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 after a long struggle with health issues. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife of 30 years and loving family members.
A beloved son, brother, father, husband, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Roger played numerous roles in his life and enjoyed every one of them. An avid fisherman, Roger enjoyed the simpler things in life.
Roger was born on May 2, 1954 to Martha and Lester Atkinson in Rochelle and later graduated high school from Genoa High in 1972. He then married Carolyn Marie Watkins of Collinsville, Okla. Together they had three children, Simanthia (Ben) Bently of Owasso, Okla., Roger Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Christopher (Eva Marie Tuft) of Oolagah, Okla. Roger and Carolyn later divorced.
On Sept. 17, 1983, Roger married the love of his life, Pamela (Aldridge) Atkinson becoming a stepfather to Jim Blue of Portage, Wis., Timothy (Mel) Blue of Baraboo, Wis., and new father to Joe (Alisha) Atkinson of Reedsburg, Wis. Roger lived the remainder of his life in Baraboo, Wis., where he retired from Ho Chunk Casino in 2009.
Roger is survived by his mother, Martha Atkinson of Genoa; his wife, Pamela Atkinson of Baraboo, Wis.; brothers and sisters, Laura Kirk of Rochelle, Pat Grisales of U.S.A., Donna (Jon) Kummer of Rockford, Martha (Carlos) Montero of Rochelle, Wayne Atkinson of Rockford, Earl Atkinson of Genoa, and William (Maria) Atkinson currently serving in our U.S.A.F. in Okinawa, Japan; all of his children; grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roger was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, his father Lester and his first wife, Carolyn.
Instead of services, Roger has requested a small gathering of close friends and family to be held at a later date.
