DEKALB — Ruth Helen Pauling, 95, of DeKalb, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center.
Born May 1, 1918, in Cloverdale, the daughter of Hugo W. and Emilia (Hahn) Karner, Ruth married Orrin J. Pauling on Oct. 14, 1939, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Cloverdale. They were a lifelong farm couple in DeKalb County.
Ruth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb and Catholic Daughters and also a member of DeKalb County Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Prime Timers.
She is survived by her six children, Dave (Ellen) Pauling of Cayce, S.C., Linda (Richard) Jackson of Bradenton, Fla., Faith Pauling of Byron, Dawn (Les) Inafuku of Bishop, Calif., Judi (Dale) Rand of Rochelle and Paul (Donna) Pauling of Appleton, Wis.; 20 grandchildren, Michael, Hans, Robert, Katie, Molly, Mark, Amy, Kristen, Angie, Craig, Julie, Miyeko, Niki, Chad, Matthew, Carmen, Karl, Sydney, Luke and Addie; 20 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Anna, Trace, Gala, Kenneth and Atticus, Sarah, Rachel, Shawn, Nicholas, Courtney, Emily, Liam, Allie and Jack, Olivia, McKinley, Amelia, Natalie and Emily; sister, Corinne Pauling of West Chicago; sisters-in-law, Ollie Gilmore and Betty Pauling; and brother-in-law, Roger (Rene) Seddon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin, in 2004; son, William; daughter, Janet; her parents; brother, George; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 Pine Street, DeKalb, with Fr. James Parker celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Wheaton.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with a Catholic Daughters service at 3 p.m. and a spiritual wake service at 7:45 p.m.
