Hubs give Geneseo a game, but fall in series finale

ROCHELLE -- In the first two games earlier this week Geneseo handled the Hubs rather easily, but in Thursday's series finale, Rochelle gave the visitors a game.
Hub starting pitcher Dylan Hopkins pitched well on the mound, but some defensive miscues gave the Maple Leafs all it needed to slip past Rochelle 5-1.

ROCHELLE -- "I knew they had it in them," exclaimed Lady Hub girls soccer coach Keith Lamb after his team turned away shot after shot to defeat Ottawa 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.

GENESEO -- Despite a home run off the bat of Brandon Johnson the Rochelle freshmen baseball team couldn't out hit Geneseo on Monday afternoon in a 10-5 on the road.

Ben Harvey wins state wrestling title

LOCKPORT -- Wrestling in the 136-pound weight class in the Illinois Greco-Roman State Championships this past Saturday in Lockport, Rochelle Wrestling Club wrestler Ben Harvey brought home a first place title.
Harvey, a Rochelle Middle School student, handily won his first two matches of the day and then captured the title in a thrilling 6-5 win in the championship match.

OREGON -- For the past several meets Lady Hub head track coach Kyle Kissack has been saying his athletes have been improving, and on Saturday the team put things together with a third place finish in the Oregon Invitational.

ROCKTON, It's hard to score runs in a softball game if you don't get hits, and hard to win a softball game if you don't score runs.
On Saturday, at Rockton, Rochelle managed just one hit and didn't score in a doubleheader, dropping two games, to Sterling 9-0 and host Hononegah 10-0.
