CRESTON — The Village of Creston’s board officials are preparing for a $170,000 project to restore parts of Main Street. According to village engineer, Kevin Bunge, the necessary updates will be done between IL Route 38 and the north edge of Cedarholm Street.

Some examples of restorations will include pulling up pavement and rebuilding parts of the ditch on north Cedarholm to maximize drainage.

Bunge said that the original estimate of the project was $300,000 but enough cuts were made to reduce the price to $170,000.

“Having a curb on one side and not the other is cheaper and then they don’t have to put storm sewer up and down the side. It will function just as well, it’s just not the conventional crown street. It’s a lot more cost effective,” he said. “We actually have the same type of design on more urban streets. It cuts down on the curb on one side and the storm sewer. It’s a pretty cost effective solution but that is still a $170,000 project.”
