ROCHELLE — Local tennis players shouldn’t have to worry about tripping on a crack or getting a bad bounce this summer, because they are officially getting some new courts on which to play.
Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District board members gave the go ahead on Tuesday night for park director Eric Christensen to tear out three deteriorating courts and replace them with three new ones at the Helms Athletic Complex.
The new courts will be located at the southeast corner of Jones Road and Eighth Avenue and run linear along Jones Road in the same fashion they do now. In addition, another court to the west will be patched up and resurfaced, giving players four quality courts to use this year.
“We plan to get this project started right away this spring so they can be used this summer,” Christensen said. “The total cost for the three new courts is expected to be approximately $200,000, but there will be additional costs with tearing out the old courts.”
