ROCHELLE — Last week the Rochelle Township High School board heard a proposal by Anne Noble, a representative of financial bond firm Stifel Nicolaus, of St. Louis, Mo., which works with school districts in an effort to pass a 1 percent countywide sales tax on retail items to go toward school facility funding.
Currently, all local dollars that contribute to schools come from property taxes. The RTHS board listened to Noble in an effort to explore other revenue options, given the uncertainty for state funding.
If this sales tax is approved by a countywide majority vote, it would raise funds for all county schools, RTHS included.
