ROCHELLE — An amendment for a special use permit will allow a recycling center in Rochelle to adapt previous plans for the facility. The amendement was approved by city council members Tuesday night.
Since starting construction on the site, Behr Iron and Steel representatives have decided that the three recycling operations would work better if they were located in different buildings than originally approved.
Representatives petitioned for an amendment to the Special Use Permit. That petition was to be discussed during a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Nov. 5; however, there were not enough members present for a quorum. The petitioner was allowed to present the request and the four members present indicated their support for the amendment. A fifth member later indicated their support for the request. Since the use has already been approved, no one from the public voiced concerns about the request, and five members would have recommended approval, staff recommended approval of an amendment to the Special Use Permit to council Tuesday.
