PSAE math, science scores show decline
ROCHELLE — Scores from the state report card released this week to Rochelle Township High School administration show a gain in district PSAE reading scores and improvements in ACT scores while slight declines in PSAE mathematics and science scores were shown, similar to state trends.
Each April, all Illinois high school juniors take the PSAE, a two-day exam that is comprised of a college readiness exam known as the ACT and an application of skills known as the WorkKeys Assessment. RTHS Director of Curriculum, Instructional and Assessment Services Dr. Elizabeth Freeman said the ACT evaluates how ready a student is for college level work in English, reading, math and science. The WorkKeys Assessment measures how well a student can apply the techniques they have learned in reading, math and science.
PSAE results show that RTHS students increased in reading achievement by 1.8 percent. State scores showed an increase in reading of 3.6 percent.
“While we are pleased to see increased achievement in reading, we know that there are always areas in need of improvement,” said RTHS Superintendent Jamie Craven.
