ROCHELLE — Shirley J. Young, 74, of Rochelle, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at her home.

She was born on Feb. 12, 1935 in Rochelle, to John C. and Rosa (Brauer) Stein. Shirley married Robert Lewis Young on May 20, 1956 in Rochelle. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, life member of the VFW Auxiliary and was previously employed as a secretary for DelMonte Corporation.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Rogene Schade and Pauline O’Brien.

Survivors include her husband, Bob, of Rochelle; three sons, Brad Young, Jeff Young and Greg (Susan) Young, all of Rochelle; two daughters, Lori (Ron) Peterson, of Malta, and Cheryl (Alan) Alliston, of Rochelle; brother, Duane (Linda) Stein, of Rochelle; three sisters, Mary Lou (Paul) Henry, of Rochelle, Joyce (Don) Gilbert, of Kingwood, Tex., and Lois Binz, of Rochelle; grandchildren, Noah and Eric Young, Katelynn, Kersta, Teigan and Mellisa Young, and Quinn and Cody Peterson.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. John Hamilton. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites were arranged by Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. Memorials can be made to Ogle County Hospice or First Presbyterian Church.
