ROCHELLE — Brian J. Mungai, 35, of Rochelle, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, July 16, 2009 due to a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Born June 8, 1974 in Chicago, Brian is the son of Nadine Jean (Blazevich) and the late Lee Wayne Mungai.
He grew up in Naperville and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics in 1996. He recently received his Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Rockford College.
Brian taught math at Rochelle Township High School, serving as the girls’ varsity softball coach until 2008 and was head coach for the boys’ freshman football team from 1997 to 2005.
On July 16, 2005, Brian married Kelly Lynn Richter in Belleville. They reside in Rochelle with their daughters Taylor Marie, age three, and Sophia AnnaLee, 8 months of age.
Brian is preceded in death by his father, Lee Wayne Mungai; paternal grandparents, Norma Mungai Bobowski and Ray Mungai; maternal grandparents, John and Nada Blazevich; step-grandfather, Al Bobowski; and uncles, Sal Nuccio and Ron Galligani.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly, and two daughters, Taylor and Sophia, of Rochelle; mother, Nadine Mungai, of Naperville; Uncle Ed (Teri Terrazino) Bobowski, of Darien; aunts, Lana Nuccio, of Lockport, Elvera Malinowski, of Aurora, Dorie Fabry, of Houston, Tex., and Tonie (Dan) Harrington, of Downers Grove.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23 also at Unger-Horner. Cremation rites will follow the services.
