ROCHELLE — The Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival Parade has long been a highlight for local residents, and this year the parade will be kicked off with a spectacular fly-over of an L-29 jet.
The Rochelle Municipal Airport has secured the jet from the University of Iowa for the day. The L-29 will be parked at the Fly-In/ Drive-In event at the airport and then will fly over the “Hub City” to lead off the parade.
This year’s parade, which will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, will step off and travel west on IL Route 38 from Caron Road to Lincoln Highway where it will turn south and travel through the downtown.
Parade Marshals this year will be Ben and Pat Burch, while many other interesting attractions have signed on for the festival parade.
The Navy band will follow the Rochelle Township High School Color Guard, while the Vince Carney Community Theater group will be performing a skit. The Pine Creek Livery will present their white carriages and horses.
